Free Vitamins for Infants and Pregnant Women

Liverpool City Council (public health) are working with Liverpool Community Health and Liverpool Women’s Hospital on a local scheme to deliver Healthy Start vitamins to all pregnant women and children under two who are registered with a Liverpool GP. Evidence is increasingly showing that the local population may be particularly at risk of vitamin D deficiency – therefore Liverpool CCG have funded this universal vitamins programme for a time limited period:

From 1st June 2014 Healthy Start vitamins will be available free of charge to all:

• Pregnant women from 10 weeks and new mothers up to one year after delivery

• Children from 4 weeks of age up to their 2nd birthday

Vitamin Tablets for women contain: Folic acid, vitamin C, vitamin D. They will be dispensed to women by their Midwife at booking; one further pack will be given at discharge. Thereafter they can obtain further supplies from any Health Centre or Children’s Centre. Each bottle of tablets contains an 8 week supply.

Vitamin Drops for Children contain: Vitamin A, C & D. These will be dispensed to parents by their Health Visitor at their 4 – 6 week contact. Parents can start administering drops to their babies from one month of age. Thereafter supplies can be picked up at any Health Centre or Children’s Centre on presentation of their red book. Each bottle of vitamins contains an 8 week supply.
