Assert yourself – A guide to help you to improve your communication skills and to become more assertive.

We’ve all heard people say “You need to be more assertive!” But what exactly is assertiveness? Assertiveness is a communication style and involves being able to express your thoughts, feelings, beliefs and opinions in a manner that doesn’t violate the rights of others. If we don’t say how we feel or what we really think we will often find ourselves agreeing with other people and doing what it is they want and this can lead to feelings of frustration, resentment, helplessness and worthlessness.
Assert yourself is a personal development workshop aimed to help you to identify the situations in which you may need to be more assertive, to recognise different styles of communication styles in yourself and others and to teach you new skills that you can practice and use every day.
