Ask your pharmacist

Pharmacists are highly trained health care professionals, and experts in everyday health issues such as colds, cold sores, sore throats and coughs many of us face during the colder months. Most pharmacies can also give advice around lifestyles such as stopping smoking and weight loss and also medicine management of long term conditions such as asthma and diabetes. Very often, you don’t need an appointment with your GP – your pharmacist can provide all the advice you need. And if you don’t pay for your prescriptions you might also be eligible for the Care at the Chemist scheme, which means that many over-the-counter medicines will be free of charge – saving you time and money, and reducing visits to the surgery. Chatting to the pharmacist is free of charge, you don’t need an appointment, there is often one in walking distance and it is confidential – plus you can be safe in the knowledge that if you need further help from other services, they’ll give you the advice you need.
If you are suffering from an everyday health issue, save yourself a trip to your GP and Ask Your Pharmacist. For a list of the range of problems they can help with visit www.nhs.uk
