Liverpool Advice on Prescription Programme

The Liverpool Advice on Prescription Programme (APP) is a new service staring in a phased roll out from January 2014

Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) advice in health settings is a programme that has been developed in response to GPs reporting an increase in patients presenting with problems that require practical solutions.

All practices will have access to a dedicated team of Citizens Advice advisers who will provide practical help and support to all patients whose health and wellbeing are affected by non-medical matters.

GPs will be able to refer vulnerable clients for help with the following:

  • Fuel Disconnection
  • Evictions
  • Benefit Suspension or Cut off
  • Job Loss
  • High Interest Lending (loan sharks and pay day loan providers)
  • Bailiff Action
  • Complex Debt Issues
  • Budgeting and managing a household budget
  • Understanding Credit and Financial Services
  • Domestic Abuse

Target population
The target population is those people deemed to be vulnerable because they are:

  • In poor physical and/or mental health
  • Suffering domestic abuse
  • Fleeing domestic abuse and attempting to set up home for the first time
  • Renting homes from the low end of the private sector
  • From a BME community
  • Or a member of a newly settled communities
  • A┬álone parent
  • Older people
  • Carers
  • Experiencing unemployment for the first time
  • Long -term unemployed
  • New parents
